Kite Design to Mary Poppins: Go Fly Your Kite Spreads Joy Across London

It never ceases to amaze us how a simple Google search for "kite making" can lead people to Go Fly Your Kite—and how it continues to open doors to exciting new opportunities across the UK and Ireland.

Most recently, we took on a new educational adventure, partnering with the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Wandsworth, and Southwark (yes, that's the correct spelling!). There, we delivered our much-loved Mary Poppins Literacy Workshop, designed to spark a love of reading in children aged 5 to 11.

The workshop includes a captivating presentation about P.L. Travers, the acclaimed author of the Mary Poppins series. Children learn about her eight enchanting Mary Poppins adventures, as well as her fascinating connection with the Irish poet and mystic A.E. Russell (also known as “Æ”), who was raised in County Armagh. His influence on Travers was profound—so much so that elements of his childhood memories helped shape parts of her stories, and indirectly, the magical world that inspired the iconic Disney film.

The response from schools and families across London was outstanding. Our workshops fostered a strong sense of community, with children making new friends at their local libraries and parents and carers sharing in a positive, creative experience.

All in all, it was another memorable Go Fly Your Kite experience. Though we won't miss navigating London's endless red lights and those ever-present 20 MPH speed limits, the joy and connection we helped create made it all worthwhile. Back home now, we've almost forgotten how to drive at 30 MPH!
