At Go Fly Your Kite, we are passionate about helping children build confidence, empathy, and meaningful friendships through our engaging Social Inclusion Friendship Workshops. Designed for children aged 8–11 years old, these interactive sessions work closely with schools, youth organisations, and community groups to encourage kindness, respect, and emotional understanding in a fun and safe environment.
Our 60-minute workshop is split into two parts: 30 minutes of learning and discussion, followed by 30 minutes of tracing a themed friendship template outline then colouring, building then learning how to fly their take home kites which creates reflection and social interaction with family and friends by reusing their kite many times after the workshop. Throughout the session, children are encouraged to explore an important question: What makes someone a good friend?
We discuss how everyone is different in many ways — height, weight, skin colour, religion, fashion choices, hobbies, and personalities — but despite our differences, we all share the same feelings and emotions. Children learn that being kind, respectful, honest, and supportive are qualities that matter far more than appearances or peer pressure.
One of the highlights of the workshop is our popular Social Bingo Activity. In this engaging exercise, children have seven minutes to move around the room asking each other questions from a specially designed social bingo grid. Questions encourage conversation, curiosity, and active listening. After the activity, we come together to discuss what they discovered about their classmates and what surprised them most.
This simple but powerful activity helps children develop communication skills and teaches them how to ask thoughtful questions to understand whether someone could become a trusted friend. It also encourages inclusion by helping quieter children feel involved and valued within the group.
During the workshop, we also explore important friendship values such as honesty, reliability, loyalty, and learning how to apologise sincerely when mistakes happen. Children are encouraged to think about how their words and actions affect others and how positive friendships can improve emotional wellbeing and confidence.
At Go Fly Your Kite, our social inclusion programmes are designed to support emotional wellbeing in schools and communities while promoting diversity, anti-bullying awareness, teamwork, and positive mental health for children.
By creating open conversations and fun learning experiences, we help young people understand that true friendship is built on empathy, trust, and respect — values that will support them throughout their lives.
